Master Mentoring: Putting the ‘Learning’ into Learning Design

31 May 2022
Recording of Zoom Meeting

Please note: This first session in our Master Mentoring  program has now occurred. However you can still purchase the recording independently or as part of the bundle.

Overview:

What motivates an adult to learn: curiosity or a simple need to know?

Educational researchers have come up with an array of answers to that question over the years. However, the truth is that adults are complex individuals and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.

Unfortunately, learning design is often approached in a formulaic, ‘content is king’ way, forgetting the importance of enticing the learners to lean into the subject matter and looking for ways to customise the experience.

Learning design underpins the success of any training and assessment program. It involves deliberate choices about what, when, where and how to deliver training to support students in the acquisition of learning.

This session aims to put the “learning” back into learning design by examining five factors that help learners to learn best and linking these to common instructional design models. It will also highlight how to plan for engaging learning, that is outcomes driven and meets the requirements of the relevant training product.

Key topics/outcomes from in this webinar:

  • Examine five (5) factors that help learners improve their learning
  • Identify common instructional design models and methodologies
  • Describe key principles and processes that underpin effective instructional design
  • Outline how instructional design principles and processes impact the quality of instruction
  • Explain how to plan for engaging learning, that is relevant and meaningful.
