Focus Week

Introducing our Focus Week: Student Diversity & Wellbeing

The Draft Revised Standards for RTOs have introduced some new terms and vocabulary. They particularly highlight a focus on Learner Support as it relates to “wellbeing”.

Standard 2.6: The training environment promotes and supports the well-being and diversity of learners.

The RTO demonstrates:
  • how it fosters an inclusive training environment for diverse learners
  • how risks to learner safety and wellbeing are managed, including by addressing harassment or discrimination in the training environment.

Standard 2.7: Well-being needs of the learner cohort are identified and strategies are put in place to support these needs.

The RTO demonstrates:
  • how it identifies the well-being needs of the learner cohort, as relevant to the training content, and the appropriate well-being support services
  • it advises learners of the wellbeing support services available and how to access those services
  • where the RTO offers training or assessment to young learners, how risks to their safety and wellbeing are identified and managed consistent with principles for child-safe organisations, having regard to the training content and mode(s) of delivery.

"What does the inclusion of ‘wellbeing’ services as part of education and support services mean for RTOs?

Given this is a non-exhaustive definition, this does not oblige RTOs to deliver wellbeing services but rather includes it as a type of service RTOs may offer to highlight the importance of learner wellbeing. It is envisaged that wellbeing services could include personal support services and resources to assist with learners’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing."

Based on feedback from our 2023 webinar program and, given the inclusions in the proposed Standards, our June 2024 Focus Week will be all about Student Diversity & Wellbeing.
