When it comes to assessment practices, the assessor marking guide plays a critical role in the reliability of judgements made.

This document should be developed to give clear direction to assessors on:

• The instructions for conducting assessment
• Context and conditions as boundaries within which they must work
• What is to be considered acceptable evidence of satisfactory performance

To be useful (and used), assessor marking guides must balance compliance and utility. Further, together with the assessment mapping document, they are a critical piece of evidence about the extent to which the assessment tool meets requirements.

The intent of these sessions is to give tips and pointers about the things that add value to the quality of your assessment tools, and what to avoid because it undermines quality and compliance.
