Version
VT1.0

A suite of three essential tools to support your industry engagement practices.

Please note that the revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations were publicly released on 1 October 2024 and will come into full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025.

The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will continue to apply until then.

This template is based on, and refers to, the requirements for the current regulatory environment.

Clauses 1.5 and 1.6 of the Standards for RTOs 2015 state that RTOs must be able to demonstrate that all strategies for training and assessment have been developed in response to information obtained through engaging with industry stakeholders.

There are a number of ways in which an RTO can take part in industry engagement, including a range of both formal and informal methods. The key to compliance is ensuring these activities are comprehensive across a range of areas to ensure relevance of training, assessment and resources, as well as being sufficiently captured as documented evidence.

This Industry Engagement Template Suite provides a framework for assisting RTOs in capturing such evidence, with guidance across the range of areas that need feedback from industry for continued relevance and improvement. The suite consists of:

  • Industry Engagement Procedure Document [docx]
  • Formal Industry Engagement Template [docx]
  • Informal Industry Engagement Matrix [xlsx]

The Industry Engagement Procedure Document provides a structure and starting point for an RTO to ensure adequate systems and activities are in place. The Formal Industry Engagement Template provides a detailed structure to ensure extensive feedback is sought from key stakeholders across as many areas as possible on an annual basis. The Informal Industry Engagement Matrix is designed to capture the smaller activities that occur on an ongoing basis, such as a phone call or comments from a conference or trade show. These smaller industry activities can supplement the more formal engagement activities to ensure relevance in meeting the needs of industry.
