This Website Audit Template is presented as a spreadsheet [.xlsx] with multiple worksheets and provides detailed guided lists of what is needed across the website. It drills down into the contents of file downloads and links, as well as ensuring payment carts are compliant with fee collection in advance.

Please note that the revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations were publicly released on 1 October 2024 and will come into full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025.

The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will continue to apply until then.

This template is based on, and refers to, the requirements for the current regulatory environment.

Clause 4.1 of the Standards for RTOs 2015 outlines a range of requirements that must be met by RTOs when advertising to prospective students and to the public in general. While this clause can be presented as a ‘list’ to check-off against marketing material, the requirements are more far reaching in terms of information that needs to be provided, and how that can be provided.

The website of an RTO is often the main form of marketing for the organisation, and therefore subject to the requirements listed in Standard 4, along with other components of the Standards. This includes use of logos, identification of the RTO, complaints and appeals information and collection of payments. It is often a complex web of pages where updates are easily missed and given this is the public facing information of the RTO it needs to be accurate and compliant.

This Website Audit Template is presented as a spreadsheet [.xlsx] with multiple worksheets and provides detailed guided lists of what is needed across the website. It drills down into the contents of file downloads and links, as well as ensuring payment carts are compliant with fee collection in advance.

The Audit Template contains:

  • Instructions for use
  • Home Page & General Info guidance
  • Fees & Refunds guidance
  • Third Party Arrangements (delivered by the RTO)
  • Individual training product audit records

The worksheets within this template provide a structure and starting point for an RTO to ensure accurate and compliant information is presented on the organisation’s public facing website which is the first port of call for the Regulator to check on compliance activities.
