Version
VT1.3

Continuous improvement is an underlying principle of the VET Quality Framework (VQF) - this resource is designed to assist with undertaking an effective and systemic review process against the Standards for RTOs 2015 utilising the Student-Centred Approach

Please note that the revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations were publicly released on 1 October 2024 and will come into full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025.

The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will continue to apply until then.

This template is based on, and refers to, the requirements for the current regulatory environment.

The Self-Assessment Report which is based on the Student-Centred Approach is a fillable Word document audit tool that contains hundreds of guiding questions for consideration when undertaking a Self-Assessment against the Standards for registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.

This tool is an adaptation of the original Velg Training Internal Audit tool.  It has been reorganised into the flow identified by ASQA, from marketing through to certification then governance and administration.  Click here to access the original Velg Training Internal Audit tool – it begins at Standard 1 and provides a linear progression through to Standard 8.

The Self-Assessment Template – Student Centred Approach template contains information on:

  • Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015
  • Reference to ASQA General directions for Assessment, Quality Indicators and Learner Transition
  • Hundreds of guiding questions directly relating to the Standards
  • Checklists for use when evaluating Training and Assessment Strategies, Trainer/Assessor Profiles and Assessment

The template provides space for a summary of the outcomes of the Self-Assessment, enabling the CEO quick reference to review the overall outcome and provide comment as required by the governance requirements within the Standards.

The completed report can be printed and stored as a hard copy or stored and distributed within your organisation electronically.  The document is not password protected and your RTO can adapt the template to include logos, watermarks and other corporate branding.  The document contains form fields and is compatible with Microsoft Word 2010, 2013 and 2016.  Some functions may not work with an apple Mac computer.
