TAE PD Week: Going Beyond the Baseline: Raising the bar with your Facilitation Skills

3 December 2024 1:00pm (AEST: QLD)
Online via Zoom Webinar

This webinar forms part of our TAE PD Week hosted by Velg Training and MRWED.  It aligns with the unit of competency TAEDEL411 - Facilitate vocational training

About this webinar

Macquarie Dictionary sums up ‘facilitation’ nicely: ‘To make something easier or less difficult’. An effective facilitator does exactly that, makes the learning process easier by using a range of purposeful techniques to drive learning outcomes.

This webinar explores ways to raise the bar with your facilitation skills, with a focus on influencing learner engagement, retention and behaviour during training.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • What it means to facilitate and why all trainers should adopt facilitation skills.
  • Key processes and factors that influence effective facilitation.
  • Processes for facilitating ‘learning through experience’ and pitfalls to avoid.
  • Both proactive and reactive ways of managing unproductive behaviours.
  • Simple techniques for maintaining composure during difficult situations.

During the webinar, Tony will share his ‘single most important learning theory/model all facilitators need to know’ and explain how it can be applied to any learning environment.

Get ready for a session that gives you key principles for effective facilitation as well as addressing some of the little things like:

  • Why you shouldn’t speak for more than 10 minutes
  • Why groups of three are better than groups of four.
  • Why ‘learning from experience’ can be problematic.
  • Why your mindset is critical to managing difficult situations
  • Why encouraging ‘mind wandering’ is not a bad idea.

Key topics covered within webinar

By the end of this session, it is expected that you will be able to:

  • Explain facilitation and the key practices of a facilitator.
  • Define factors that impact effective facilitation practice
  • Use experiential learning processes to enhance facilitation and learner outcomes.
  • Use proactive and reactive techniques to manage unproductive behaviours.
