The Hon. Karen Andrews MP is a member of the Liberal National Party who was elected in 2010, 2013 and 2016 to represent the southern Gold Coast electorate of McPherson in the House of Representatives.
As the Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills and a member of the Women in Engineering Alumni Network at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Karen is passionate about education. In particular, she encourages the study of mathematics and science in schools and promotes professions in the crucial fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Karen works closely with the Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon. Simon Birmingham to create positive outcomes for Australians undertaking vocational education.
The experience of the Hon. Michael Lavarch AO is grounded in law, as former Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Secretary-General of the Law Council of Australia. Leading on from this, Michael is well-practised in Higher Education and the public policy process.
From 1987 to 1996, Commissioner Lavarch was a Member of the Australian parliament and also served as Attorney-General from 1993 to 1996. In 2012, Michael was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his extensive contribution to the law, education and human rights. Also in 2012, Michael began work for the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) in the role of Commissioner, Risk, Intelligence and Regulatory Support.
