Trainer and Assessor Competence and Currency

Delivery of quality vocational training relies on having properly qualified educators with relevant experience. Specific requirements for trainers and assessors are mandated by the Standards.

Assessment Tools

An ‘assessment tool’ is defined as both “the instrument(s) and procedures used to gather and interpret evidence of competence”.

VET Legislation and Frameworks

There are various pieces of legislation, guidelines and benchmarks that govern training and assessment activities, and VET practitioners need to understand these requirements.

System Basics

‘System Basics’ gives a break-down of the interconnected functions, frameworks and entities in Australia’s VET sector.

Student Enrolment

Certain information is required from students when they enrol and are formally admitted to a course of study.

Quality Assurance (Self Assurance & Auditing)

Quality Assurance gives confidence that the quality requirements of a product or service are being fulfilled. All RTOs should ensure their operations are quality assured so that quality VET delivery is maintained.

Qualifications

As one part of the endorsed component of a Training Package, qualifications are a group of Units of Competency ‘packaged’ together as the requirement for working in a particular industry role at a specific level. A qualification is also the official documentation recognising competency in all of the units specific to a particular grouping of units.

Training Package Development

When Training Packages are developed and/or maintained, various organisations are involved in the process to ensure occupational skills are delivered to the particular standards required by specific industries.

Training and Assessment Strategies (TAS)

A TAS is a framework that identifies the structure for the way in which a training product is delivered to learners and the way assessment will occur.

Transition Arrangements

There are certain RTO activities that must be completed in set timeframes when a training product is superseded, removed or deleted from the national VET register.
