Updated credential requirements for trainers and assessors take effect from 1 July 2019. These requirements, set out in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015, were made by skills ministers to ensure a high quality vocational education and training sector that delivers on outcomes for students and employers.
You meet the requirements for a trainer and assessor if you have:• Diploma or higher level qualification in adult educationor • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and both: ○ TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills, or TAELLN401A, and ○ TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools, or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B You meet the requirements for an assessor if you have:• Any of the qualifications mentioned in this tableor • TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set or • TAESS00001 Assessor Skill Set, and ○ TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools In addition, you also need to have vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed, and continue to have current industry skills and knowledge in training and learning. |
If you are not ready by 1 July, an RTO may be able to put in place arrangements for individuals to work under supervision. Those working under supervision are required to have:
Please note, individuals working under supervision are not able to determine assessment outcomes, but may be involved in aspects of the assessment process.
