In the changing world of work and the need to enhance student's foundation and employability capabilities is driving work placements as a key component of many VET courses. In the case of apprenticeships and traineeships, the majority of the learning experience occurs in the workplace and not the classroom. 

Whilst work placements programs have many benefits, they also present a challenge for trainers/teachers, students, employers and administrators: they are cumbersome to administer. There is typically a lot of time and effort spent in creating and distributing forms and information to all the relevant stakeholders involved in the work placements process.

Once the work placement is underway, there is also a requirement for the capture of information including student attendance at the host employer, workplace activities and assessments and employer sign-offs on completed activities, trainer/teacher review of progress and a range of communication between the various stakeholders for different reasons. 

Currently most work placement processes are highly manual, inefficient and prone to duplication of effort and delays. For many years, the work placements process has been begging for a better solution.
