Why the Focus on LLN ?

Why the Focus on LLN ? image

That’s why we’ve dedicated a whole week to ensuring that trainers and assessors have the opportunity to gain valuable PD related to this core component of work, learning and societal participation.

RTOs need to ensure that their training and assessment systems are scaffolding their learners’ foundation skills development.  During the fourth focus week, Velg Training will offer a week of webinars specifically focused on various aspects of foundation skills support. Choose one or all of the sessions to gain valuable insight and learnings from our five experts.

Remember too, that offering support to students isn’t always limited to addressing LLN.  Sometimes there is the need – and opportunity – to offer help beyond the LLN concerns that frequently spring to mind when thinking about student support.  Join Michelle Charlton on Thursday 5 December when she offers a thought provoking, shaken, not stirred, out-of-the-box with a twist, approach to Clause 1.7.  When it comes to supporting learners throughout their study journey, there’s a lot an RTO can do to enable progression.  If you want to find out more, register for Michelle’s session in the Foundation Skills Focus Week.

Over the last few years the Foundation Skill Training Package (FSK) has been reviewed and revised. After much consultation and many discussions, a revised structure for the FSK was created and units were revised and updated to reflect the feedback received. This webinar will outline the major changes and enhancements to the FSK qualifications and units.

Assessment of Foundation Skills
Presenter: Rachel Leigh Taylor

When it comes to assessment of foundation skills, many trainers/assessors think this belongs in the realm of those who teach from the FSK Training Package and does not really apply to them. This webinar will demonstrate how foundation skills are pivotal to all we do as trainers/assessors and how we can ensure that those underpinning foundation skills are adequately assessed through tasks that are industry relevant, whatever training package we are teaching from.

When it comes to thinking about student support, Language, Literacy and Numeracy concerns are those that most frequently spring to mind. But wait! There can be more behind a call for help than just LLN. When it comes to supporting learners throughout their study journey, there’s a lot an RTO can do to enable progression. Rather than a tutorial-type session, this webinar is designed to be thought provoking, to encourage a shaken, not stirred, out-of-the-box with a twist, approach to Clause 1.7.

What do Foundation Skills mean to the general Trainer and Assessor
Presenter: John Dwyer
Register now
This session will consider the implications of foundation skills for 'general' trainers and assessors rather than LLN specialists. I'm not a specialist in Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN). I'm a general trainer/assessor working in my own industry. So what are foundation skills and what am I supposed to do with them?
