Does Undertaking VET for Secondary School Students Studies [VfSSS] Really Pay Off?

Does Undertaking VET for Secondary School Students Studies [VfSSS] Really Pay Off? image

The research in the report serves to advise us on the destinations of students who undertake VfSSS.  The study follows the 2011 cohort of students five years after graduation from secondary school.  The study uses data collected from a range of observations and datasets, allowing for a broad analysis of information.

According to the VET for secondary school students: post-school employment and further training destinations report, students who undertook VfSSS in 2011 were the most successful in their cohort of finding full-time and permanent ongoing work.  Additionally, these students were more likely than their non-VfSSS peers to have:

  • jobs as technicians and trade workers, or work across the hospitality, retail and service (manager) industries
  • completed an apprenticeship or other VET studies

The data also shows that students from the 2011 cohort who undertook an apprenticeship or traineeship as part of their schooling were more likely, than their peers who did not, to be employed in an occupation relevant to their field of study.
