Important First Aid Update

Important First Aid Update image

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) COVID-19 Emergency Response Sub-Committee has provided a statement in relation to delivery of First Aid training.  Some key points from the statement include:

  • RTOs intending on continuing to deliver first aid training should undertake a risk assessment which considers the relevance and urgency of the training in relation to current societal restrictions due to COVID-19.
  • Reasonable adjustments must be provided to all students during manikin ventilation teaching and assessing for all essential training.  Such reasonable adjustments include breathing to the side of the manikin instead breathing directly into the manikin.
  • Assessors to use professional judgement when assessing competency of students’ capacity to perform CPR under new circumstances.

This communique builds on the initial advice provided by the First Aid Industry Reference Committee, as well as updating important information and regulatory requirements for delivery of First Aid training during the COVID-19 pandemic.
