A New Era for the VET Sector

ASQA welcomes the release of the Australian Government’s rapid review into regulatory practices and processes.

ASQA has been closely working with the independent review team over the past six months, and have been encouraging stakeholders to provide valuable input.  A number of recommendations have been suggested, with ASQA keen to focus on these points as the regulator moves to improve practices and processes.

The recommendations confirm ASQA’s focus to:

  • strengthen our engagement and education programs
  • clarify our role and regulatory approach
  • build a common understanding of self-assurance and excellence in training outcomes
  • align our practices and governance accordingly
  • provide more considered and meaningful reporting on provider performance
  • undertake appropriate and proportionate regulatory action as required

ASQA remains committed to a reform of the sector through strong engagement with industry and associated stakeholders.  As part of the measures of support for the engagement initiatives, ASQA is developing a comprehensive education program for training providers.  The training program will ensure providers are aware of, and supported to understand, the regulator’s expectations and requirements.

Further Extension Granted to Transition Period for TLILIC0012 Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane

The latest extension follows on from ASQA’s decision to extend the transition period for 13 high-risk work units of competency.  The TLILIC0012 Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above) will remain on the scope of registration with individual RTOs unless the RTO chooses to withdraw it earlier.
