One our most exciting events each year is the National VET Conference (NVC). Exciting events mean exciting venues, and exciting venues mean site visits! Last week, Dimity, Brittanie and Elyce set off to Sydney to check out the venue for the 2017 NVC. Of course, site visits (mostly) mean business, so their first stop was the International Convention Centre (ICC).

Sydney has been referred to as “Australia’s leading global city” and with good reason: the city covers 26.16 kilometres within the metropolitan region, and is the headquarters for almost 40% of the top 500 Australian corporations. It makes sense then, that the ICC Sydney was opened in 2016 to support the abundance of work, social and cultural opportunities the city has to offer.

Dubbed as the “Asia Pacific’s premier convention, exhibition and events precinct”, the ICC Sydney is located in the heart of Darling Harbour and is flanked by dining, leisure and residential hotspots. With an 8,000 person capacity plenary, a 2,000 capacity grand ballroom, a total exhibition space of 35,000 sqm and an external deck space of 5,000 sqm, it’s safe to say that the ICC Sydney is huge – and it certainly puts our conference into perspective! This venue certainly lives up to the hype, and we can confirm that it is incredible.

After spending half a day (and a whole lot more footsteps) touring the ICC Sydney, the girls decided to do even more walking and embarked on the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge climb. With Brittanie conquering her serious fear of heights, they stopped to enjoy one of the best views Sydney has to offer. Here’s the picture to prove it – and to make us all jealous. Good job girls!

Day two consisted of visiting TAFE venues across Sydney to find volunteers for the NVC. Each year, we invite students studying a Diploma of Events to give them the opportunity of receiving real-world experience in the Events industry. This is always a lot of fun for both us and them, and delegates enjoy seeing them at the NVC. We’ll keep you posted on who our students are this year.

After two huge days of site visits, the girls arrived back home to Brisbane just in time for the weekend. We bet that it was a welcome break, but after the fun they had we didn’t feel too sorry for them!
