Why You Should Attend a Master Class at the 2017 NVC image

Going to the 2017 NVC? Why not attend a Master Class!

Get even more out of your 2017 National VET Conference experience by attending a Master Class. This year we have four exciting sessions exploring quality engagement, compliance, training and assessment planning and how to reignite your VET career. These three hour Master Classes will be held before the event on Wednesday 13 September 2017.

Morning Master Class Sessions (9.00am – 12.00pm)

Quality Engagement and Generation C

Presented by John Price, Kerri Buttery, Robert Lowe & Raymond Simpson

This session focuses on answering key questions that underpin quality delivery of training according to the learner and the generation they represent. The definition of ‘success’ in the learning environment and how this can be facilitated for students will be discussed. On-going opportunities for continued engagement that effectively bridges the generational gap will be explored, some idiosyncrasies from each generation highlighted, and suggestions made for how, as professionals, we need to adapt. Attendees to please bring own fully charged device.

The Sharp Edge of Compliance – Sometimes

Presented by Joe Newbery

This dynamic session will provide attendees with a range of innovative techniques to help them build effective governance and administration systems that are a requirement of the Standards for RTOs 2015. It is recognised that enhanced business viability and sustainability is positively correlated to quality training, and learner outcomes. Aside from ways to aid compliance, this session is filled suggestions for operational review processes, and practical tips to build more productive and profitable RTOs.

Afternoon Master Class Sessions (1.00pm – 4.00pm)

Reigniting your VET Career

Presented by Mark Hodgson

Many RTOs grow very quickly without developing and implementing necessary strategies and essential systems for success. This can lead to overwhelmed, burnt out staff, constant mistakes, missed deadlines, difficulty with compliance and finding referrals. RTO business growth requires a planned strategy rather than it happening by default or ‘good luck’. This presentation will discuss considerations, alternatives and best timing for growth, and simple systems for, and how to manage, rapid, profitable growth of your RTO.

A Guide for RTO Managers: Planning for quality training and assessment

Presented by Kerrie-Anne Sommerfeld

Storytelling is an effective tool to engage and inspire even the most difficult students, and it has been used a means to inform, educate and entertain people throughout the ages. This session will explore the concept of using storytelling as a pedagogical tool in the VET classroom. Included will be discussion on linking stories to VET frameworks, using stories for role-play, and as a problem-solving tool. Also covered will be some simple activities to activate schemata in students’ thought processes.

Handy Hint: If you are attending the two day National VET Conference you will be able to pre-register and collect the famous Velg Training bag from our friendly Events team who will be onsite during the day setting up for the conference.
