Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Karen Andrews said since May 2017 Australian graduates have been able to use their USI to access an online authenticated transcript of the training they had undertaken since January 2015.
“The Government introduced USI transcripts to provide graduates with proof of prior learning and past credentials,” Minister Andrews said.
“Using a transcript helps make enrolling in further courses with a registered training organisation quicker and easier.
“With the growing bank of past training records now readily accessible through the USI transcript service, I encourage registered training organisations to talk to their new students about providing permission for the training organisation to access and view their USI transcript online.
“VET students can set permissions in their USI account for their registered training organisation to have instant access to view their online USI transcript, providing a reliable way for credit of previous learning to be accepted and given.
“Sharing their USI transcript online saves both students and training organisations time in verifying the validity of paper or email credentials and provides greater assurance, which provides real benefits.”
“The online USI transcript is also handy when paper credentials are forgotten, misplaced or accidentally destroyed,” Minister Andrews said.
“The USI service is an important part of the Government’s efforts to support vocational education and training.”
The Australian Skills Quality Authority recognises direct access to USI transcripts as an alternative checking procedure for credit transfers and prior qualifications.
The USI system is part of a major suite of reforms to the VET sector that is strengthening our vocational education system.
They include the Industry Specialist Mentoring program to support over 40,000 apprentices through their training, the real skills for real careers initiative to raise the status of VET, and the Skilling Australians Fund that will create an extra 300,000 apprentices and trainees over the next four years.
