Jump On Board National Skills Week 2017 image

The 2017 National Skills Week will be held from Monday August 28 to Sunday 3 September. This year’s theme, ‘More Than You Know’, focuses on shifting pre-conceived ideas and raising the status of Vocational Education and Training (VET).

Help showcase the many benefits of learning a skill or trade by holding your own National Skills Week event to promote qualifications, highlight career opportunities, engage the public and stimulate career conversations.

Need Some Ideas?

Previous National Skills Week events and activities have included:

  • flash mobs;
  • industry demonstrations in shopping malls;
  • school trips to small enterprises;
  • skills ambassadors speaking at schools;
  • collaborative events with community partners like Rotary, open days at Technical and Further Education Institutes (TAFEs) and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs);
  • organised student visits to Industry and RTOs;
  • father-daughter dinners to explore women in non-traditional trades;
  • involvement with local parliamentarians;
  • using social media to publicise National Skills Week; and
  • to highlight an industry, students building things to demonstrate their skills.
