Developing Assessment for Clustered Units of Competency

Developing Assessment for Clustered Units of Competency image

Clustered assessment is when two or more units of competency are assessed at the same time through a holistic gathering of evidence.  There are many reasons for why an RTO might decide to cluster assessment of units offered, and the main one is probably because of perceived benefit to the student.

Although a realistic representation of what happens in the workplace in so far as how a role might be performed, clustered assessment is not always achieved seamlessly through competency-based assessment.  And this is typically because of the requirements associated with the ‘back-end’ considerations rather than the actual assessment itself.

So, what are these ‘back end’ considerations?  They are things like the compliance-related components of the process such as:

  • Mapping
  • Use of appropriately designed tools
  • Collection of evidence
  • Making judgements of competency

John Price has developed this workshop to explain all of the above so you can too, can effectively offer clustered assessment in your RTO.

This workshop is being run in Brisbane on 31 July 2018, and again in Sydney on 7 September.
