Boosting Student and Institutional Success with Attendance Tracking

Boosting Student and Institutional Success with Attendance Tracking image

In Australia, tracking attendance for full-fee paying English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) students is a big issue. Student visas can be cancelled if attendance levels are not maintained at 80% or higher and the student can be deported.

Tracking attendance is an ages-old problem that institutions around the world continue to face. Educators agree that there is a strong and positive correlation between time spent in the classroom and student success. A study by the organisation Colby defined the “70% Rule”, which states that a student who attends less than 70% of the time has a two in three chance of failing the course.  Students with higher attendance records are more engaged in their education, and more likely to stick with it to graduation.  With a simple and seamless way to track attendance, it becomes straightforward to identify those who are falling behind so they can get the attention they need.

To see firsthand how Blackboard is helping institutions address these challenges of tracking student attendance, then the ideal venue is the National VET Conference ANZ 2018 to be held in Adelaide from 13 to 14 September. Blackboard is the Registration Sponsor for this event. The Blackboard Attendance solution will be used throughout the event, allowing attendees to experience the solution’s scalability and flexibility as it tracks attendance and provides an insight into how the solution would work across all instructional modalities (face-to-face, online, and hybrid) and all class sizes, with attendance data readily available to enable student progression and retention initiatives to drive student success.

Tap your card throughout the conference at the registration desk, session rooms, social reception, and the Blackboard exhibition booth (42).
