Extension Granted! image

The revised deadline for the update to trainer and assessor credentials is now 1 July 2019.  That’s only three months away.  Many trainers and RTOs are using the deadline reprieve to put in place arrangements for continuity just in case upgrades are not completed by the due date.

Feedback is that the backlog for RTOs registered to access the upgrade units is huge.  And there is no secret that the unit TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools is heavy duty; especially for people who are not designing and developing assessment tools as part of their day-to-day work as a trainer/assessor.  Expect that it will take considerable time and effort to meet the requirements of this unit in particular.

In response to the sector backlog, and the impending deadline, Velg Training have the following three products especially designed to support RTOs and trainers to plan for continuity of operations and employment.

1. For trainers and assessors who may not have their upgrade processed in time

A TAE Skill Set could be the solution that allows you to keep working as a trainer (under supervision) whilst your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment upgrade is being processed.

This product is an evidence guide for candidates preparing for RPL in the unit TAEDEL301 Provide work skill instruction.  This product has analysed the unit requirements and gives you step-by-step suggestions for what evidence to gather and present as part of a claim for competency in TAEDEL301.  This guide will help you save valuable time once enrolled with an RTO with TAEDEL301 on scope.

Developed by Training Tools, the TAEDEL301 RPL Candidate Evidence Guide is available now on the Velg Training Products page.

2. For RTOs who have TAEDEL301 on scope

Have staff who haven't finalised their Cert IV TAE upgrade?  Want an RPL option and/or to offer an RPL option to other RTOs whose staff need a stop-gap to work under supervision?  We have a comprehensive RPL Kit that has been purpose built for the unit TAEDEL301 Provide work skill instruction. Best of all, it has been validated and is ready to use!

The kit includes:

  • Assessor marking guide with benchmark responses
  • Student version
  • Mapping document
  • Verification report template
  • Validation statement

All of the hard work has been done for you.  Developed by Training Tools, the RPL tool comprises:

  • Portfolio of Evidence submission
  • Competency Conversation
  • Third-Party Verification
  • Optional Observation (where required)
  • List of other suggested evidence items

If your RTO may have trainers awaiting TAE upgrade certification and/or if you are looking to offer the unit to others, this tool is just the ticket. Purchase the TAEDEL301 Provide Work Skill Instruction RPL Kit on the Velg Training Products page.

3. For RTOs who need to implement working under supervision arrangements

Developed by VETNexus, this template is specifically designed for the documenting of supervision arrangements with experienced Trainers.

Trainers and Assessors must demonstrate how they meet the requirements of Clauses 1.14/1.15 of Standard 1 of the Standards for RTOs 2015. It is the RTO's responsibility to capture how each trainer and/or assessor meets these requirements.

In the case of an experienced trainer holding TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment who has not upgraded to meet the new requirements from 1 July 2019, this can mean they are no longer able to train unless they are working under supervision.

When trainers do not meet these requirements, they are required to work under supervision.

"1.17 Where the RTO, in delivering training and assessment, engages an individual who is not a trainer or assessor, the individual works under the supervision of a trainer and does not determine assessment outcomes." - Standards for RTOs 2015

Supervision arrangements should be clearly documented and this 'Delivering Training Under Supervision' template makes it clear what the requirements are that an experienced trainer (holding TAE40110 and a relevant skill set) needs to hold to work under supervision.

The template also provides guidance on the types of supervision activities that can take place and the evidence that could be retained of implementation of the supervision arrangement.

The Delivering Training Under Supervision (experienced Trainers) template is available now on the Velg Training Products page.
