AISC Communique - 20 April 2020 Meeting

In keeping with the social distancing times of COVID-19 life, the latest AISC meeting was held on 20 April 2020 via teleconference.  The Chair acknowledged the impact that COVID-19 has had on the work of the Committee in the last reporting period.

The establishment of the AISC Emergency Response Subcommittee was a key item of discussion.  The issue of rapid support to essential skilling requirements during the pandemic was discussed, as was the need for urgent adjustments to training package products in response.  Areas of focus for emergency training package development include aged care, disability support, health care and early childhood education and care.  The Emergency Response Subcommittee Terms of Reference, membership, development and consultation process was considered by the AISC. As COVID-19 has made a significant impact on training package development projects, the Committee noted the delay in progress for several projects.  The Committee also noted the updated Forward Work Plan, and encourage a flexible approach when incorporating advice from SSOs and IRCs on any affected project.

The following training products were approved for referral to Ministers for approval by the Committee:

• RII Resources and Infrastructure – Release 5.0 (Blasting Methods; Geotechnical risks in quarries; Construction Materials Testing; Common Skills; Drilling and Exploration; Coal Mining)
• CPC – Construction Plumbing and Services – Swimming Pool and Spa Building
• MSS Sustainability – Energy Management
• MST Textiles, Clothing and Footwear – Industrial Sewing
• AHC Arboriculture

The next meeting of the AISC will be held on 16 June 2020.
