Let's Design a Robust and User Friendly RPL Process

Let's Design a Robust and User Friendly RPL Process image

John Dwyer's professional career and experience has spanned 60 years within the VET sector.  Considered to be the Oracle of all things VET, Recognition of Prior Learning is a subject area that is close to his heart.  There really is no question too simple or complex and no situation too difficult in this vocational training area that John couldn't assist you with.

In this webinar session John will address a number of concepts that should drive the design and implementation of an effective and efficient, user-friendly RPL process.  Often considered an overwhelming process for both candidates AND assessors this has often degenerated what should be a quality and integral assessment practice into a meaningless and exhausting paper chase.

RPL is an assessment only pathway because the applicant is claiming to be already competent so Assessors need to be experts in the field being assessed, but they also need to avoid becoming a victim of their own expertise.  John will explore the idea of working back from the job to the unit of competency, an approach which works well in practice as applicants don’t really think about units of competency, they think more about their job.  John will discuss the importance of staying ‘big picture’ for as long as possible and how to avoid getting bogged down in the details too soon.

Taking place on Wednesday 28 October 2020, this webinar is a fantastic opportunity to gain some real insights into how the following concepts can be used to streamline and simplify your RPL assessment process.  The session itself will cover:

  • visualising competence
  • harnessing the power of the competency conversation
  • helping the applicant generate evidence
  • focussing on ‘natural’ documents
  • posing the continual question .... “What is this actually evidence OF?”
  • understanding the rules of evidence and using them to tame “wild” evidence, and
  • using other parties to help authenticate evidence.

This 90-minute session is one of five available during the 2020 National VET PD Week whereby you can take up the opportunity to tap into John's expertise in a 30-minute ‘let’s talk about’ component at the end of the presentation.  John will be only too happy to respond to your live questions and comments, any Questions on Notice and Frequently Asked Questions.
