Breaking Down Barriers - Scoping the Future of VET in Schools

One of the two focus areas of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)'s Regulatory Strategy 2020-2022 is to improve the provision of VET delivered in schools.  ASQA have been working with other regulators and state and territory governments to:

  • further clarify the key risks associated with VET delivered in secondary schools and understand how they interact with the delivery models in each jurisdiction
  • research the delivery and quality assurance of VET for secondary school students in other countries
  • analyse the findings of existing research and reviews to inform further work to address any issues identified, including a potential Strategic Review into VET delivered in secondary schools.

ASQA has this week published its VET delivered to secondary school students scoping study outlining its commitments to supporting continuous improvements in the quality of VETDSSS which include:

  • providing clearer guidance to assist compliance
  • working with other VET regulators to identify risks
  • engaging more directly with education departments and schools
  • engaging with states and territories on shared risk, promotion of continuous improvement, and
  • applying clause 1.6 of the Standards for RTOs.

TAFETalks is presented by TAFE Directors Australia and provides a virtual platform for TAFE staff and other interested VET stakeholders to come together, to share, learn and create connections across institutes and states and territories on current issues and priorities.

With the provision of VET in Schools across Australia being an essential regulatory focus and currently undergoing review and consultation, TAFETalks presents its next webinar on just this very subject.

Looking into the future of VET in Schools this one-hour session features Professor Peter Shergold, Chancellor Western Sydney University and Steffen Faurby, Managing Director, TAFE NSW who will reflect on the outcomes and progress made since the Looking to the Future (2020) review on senior secondary education pathways and In the Same Sentence (2021) review on bringing higher and vocational education together.

To register for the TAFETalks: Breaking down the barriers – the future of VET in Schools webinar Wednesday 20 October at 2.00pm ADST.
