Government Funded VET Student Numbers Rise Up in 2021 image

The latest Government-funded students and courses report from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) shows that in 2021 the majority of students were enrolled in nationally recognised training (95.9%) and the remainder in non-nationally recognised training.

In 2021, there were 1 198 500 students enrolled in nationally recognised training and 98 400 in non-nationally recognised training, which was an increase for both from 2020. Of those enrolled in nationally recognised training, most (80.4% or 963 900) were undertaking training package qualifications.

NCVER Managing Director Simon Walker said, “Looking at the changes in government-funded students between 2020 and 2021, the largest absolute increase was in qualifications (up 82 000 students or 8.6%). The largest decline was in skill sets (down 21 100 students or 12.1%).”

“Student enrolments increased most in the Community Services, Construction, Health, Automotive, Business Services and Electrotechnology training packages, clustered within Certificate III to Diploma level programs,” Mr Walker stated.
