Things you can do with an Online Assessment Solution you might not have known!

Things you can do with an Online Assessment Solution you might not have known! image

In 2021, the term “online assessment” is being used more than ever! But what does online assessment actually mean?

In the context of Cloud Assess, Online Assessment is multifaceted! It means that you digitise your assessments so you can deliver them how you want, which could be online, face-to-face or blended. This in turn gives you the flexibility that can’t be achieved on paper such a rapidly deploying a critical change, ensuring authenticity through unique logins and electronic signatures and supporting reasonable adjustment on the fly…just to name a few.

So now you know what it is, here are some things you can do that you might not have known:

1. Design with the learner in mind

From a compliance point of view, ensure your assessments are consistent, clear and allow for all appropriate abilities to understand and complete. This will align to the Principles of Assessment, and in particular, consider "Fairness".

For example, Student and Assessor instructions can be clearly outlined and embedded at the start of an assessment in writing, audio, video or in a downloadable PDF document. Watch tutorials from Wistia or Youtube for great ways to create videos.

With a flexible authoring tool you will be able to create any question format or accept any evidence upload allowing you to contextualise your assessments with ease.

2. Make it easy

Good instrument design is not about making assessments easy to get a, “Satisfactory” outcome, but to make assessments easy to complete correctly.

For example, in the context of authoring best practice, it would be most intuitive to provide 5 text boxes for a 5 answer question rather than one text box. The intent is made very clear to the student as it becomes a visual prompt and makes it clear what responses are required.

3. Drive productivity with Workflows

It might seem tedious at the time to set up your Automation and workflows, but in the end it will save you hours/days/weeks and increase your productivity.

It also enables a consistent and continuous flow of information that will enhance your student experience.

Create due date reminder emails that will help your assessment process continue to flow. Confirm results as they happen. Even remind learners of their right to appeal with a link to an electronic form that will be sent to Administrators for immediate processing.

4. Save hours of frustration with Mapping

Mapping can be a huge and tedious task. Checking between multiple documents and bringing up matrices to track and check is very laborious!!

Your Online Assessment solution should allow you to map your questions directly to the unit of competency requirements from training.gov.au.  It’s then easy to spot any gaps and amendments can be made instantly, even across clusters or unit updates

Check out this case study that shows how much simple mapping can be.

5. Effortlessly control your versions of assessment

Managing versions or revisions of your assessment is a potential area that can spiral out of control.

With an Online Assessment solution, there is no chance that an assessor is using a document on a portable drive or that a version has been edited without your knowledge. The only way to edit an assessment is to create a new revision of your master template and deploy it within your assessment platform.

Online assessment is so much more than just a method of delivery to remote learners. Designed to make a difference to educators and learners, Cloud Assess supports training providers Power Brighter Futures by making assessment streamlined, compliant and accessible.
