Top 3 Trends for RTOs in 2023

Top 3 Trends for RTOs in 2023 image

“Change is the only constant in life.” Without a doubt, that is applicable to the VET sector. We’ve seen a number of changes in the last 10 years, including change of government, change of standards, change to audit focus … the list goes on.

What, then, are the top trends that we as a sector must be ready for in 2023?

1. Self-assurance

So what is self-assurance?

At the recent National VET Conference, David Garner described it as an expectation that providers will genuinely and continually monitor their own compliance.

How do we do self-assurance?

As featured on the ASQA website, the co-designed model for self-assurance is a framework for RTOs to use when designing processes to monitor quality and compliance. The four elements are in place to support effective training and assessment delivery and quality.

The four elements are:

  • leadership and governance
  • student engagement and support
  • industry and community engagement
  • staff capability and development.

Needless to say, the remaining trends stem from this point.

2. Training and PD

Staff capability and development will be more important than ever to track and verify under the self-assurance model.

Clauses 3.1 and 3.2 of the Draft Standards for RTOs, centres around the competency of the Trainer and Assessor. In addition to having the relevant industry background and qualifications, they are required to continuously build upon their skills. This includes industry-relevant and training and assessment skills.

Using a superior solution for monitoring staff PD will support this as each trainer can upload their evidence, log details of their training and access any records within a central and secure location that your compliance team can verify. Ask the Cloud Assess team how Trainer PD can be effectively implemented within your organisation.

3. Smarter ways of working

Moving on from designing solid processes for monitoring compliance and quality practices is the implementation.  In the current technological climate, there's no reason why they can't be scalable and efficient.

Using a solution like Cloud Assess you can streamline the learner journey from enrolment to result.  Seamlessly engage and support your learners with an easy to use solution designed for Vocational skill development.

Features like Quality Checks ensure that you have governance over sample sizes of assessments.  The Stats feature allows you to compare and go through a statistically sound sample of assessment records and take note of where things are going well and possible look into where there needs to be improvement.  You might need to ask questions like:

  • What is the Pass / Fail rate of this assessment?
  • Are assessors marking differently?
  • What do students struggle with in this assessment?

Automation of manually intensive tasks like enrolment or data entry is all in the past with Cloud Assess Workflow.  In addition, you can integrate all your systems with Zapier.  Effortlessly transfer information to your other systems to ensure you work smarter, not harder.
